    Oncomodulin is a high-affinity calcium ion-binding protein. It belongs to the superfamily of calmodulin proteins, also known as the EF-hand proteins. Oncomodulin is an oncodevelopmental protein found in early embryonic cells in the placenta and also in tumors. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008] Annotation information: Note: There are two oncomodulin-like loci on chromosome 7 (GeneIDs 4951 and 654231). The nomenclature for the p and q arm locations was modified to agree with reports (including PMID: 1559707) that place the OCM gene on the p arm. [18 Jun 2007]
