Involved in several processes, including cell junction assembly; determination of adult lifespan; and respiratory system development. Located in basolateral plasma membrane; nucleus; and septate junction. Part of sodium:potassium-exchanging ATPase complex. Is expressed in several structures, including epithelial cell; gut section; head; muscle system; and nervous system. Used to study epilepsy; familial hemiplegic migraine; and nervous system disease. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease type 2DD; alternating hemiplegia of childhood; bipolar disorder; brain disease (multiple); and hypertension.
